- How does the English level test work?
- Our test has 40 multiple-choice questions across four sections: Grammar (15 questions), Vocabulary (10 questions), Reading Comprehension (8 questions), and Find the Mistake (7 questions). You answer one question at a time. The test takes about 12 minutes to complete. Your results are calculated instantly based on your answers.
- What CEFR levels does the test measure?
- The test measures all six CEFR levels: A1 (Beginner), A2 (Elementary), B1 (Intermediate), B2 (Upper Intermediate), C1 (Advanced), and C2 (Proficient). Each question is tagged with a difficulty level, and your final level is determined by the highest level where you score 70% or above.
- Is this an official English proficiency test?
- No. This is a free self-assessment tool that gives you an approximate indication of your English level. For official certification, you should take an IELTS, TOEFL, or Cambridge English exam. Our test helps you understand where you stand before taking an official exam.
- Do I need to create an account?
- No registration or account is needed. Your progress is saved locally in your browser. If you close the tab, you can resume where you left off as long as you use the same browser. Your past results are also stored locally.
- How long does the test take?
- The test takes about 12 minutes. There are 40 questions, and most people answer each question in 15-20 seconds. There is no time limit, so you can take as long as you need.
- Can I retake the test?
- Yes, you can retake the test as many times as you want. Your past results are saved in your browser so you can track your progress over time.
- What should I study to improve my level?
- After you complete the test, you will see a breakdown of your performance in each section. Focus on the section where your percentage was lowest. You can find free learning resources at British Council Learn English, BBC Learning English, and many other online platforms.
- Is my data safe?
- Yes. All your test data is stored locally in your browser using localStorage. Nothing is sent to our servers. We do not collect, store, or share any personal information. See our Privacy page for more details.
- What is the best English level test online?
- The best test depends on your needs. For a quick, free assessment of your general English level, our test is a great choice. For official certification accepted by universities and employers, consider IELTS, TOEFL, or Cambridge English exams.
- How do I prepare for the test?
- You do not need to prepare. Just take the test in a quiet place and answer honestly. The test is designed to assess your current English level naturally. Reading English books, watching English TV shows, and practicing with English speakers are good ways to improve over time.
